One Dream, Two Battles written by N.H.
A Life-Changing Diagnosis
In June 2019, I was a newlywed when I received life-changing news: my biopsy results confirmed I had breast cancer. At the time, I knew very little about what lay ahead. All I knew was one thing—I needed to trust the incredible doctors at AUBMC and follow their guidance.
Starting Treatment
We began the treatment journey step by step: first surgery, then chemotherapy, followed by radiation. But before starting chemotherapy, my oncologist advised me to meet with Dr. Ghazeeri to discuss fertility preservation, as the treatment could impact my ability to have children in the future.
Exploring Fertility Preservation
I had never heard of embryo freezing before. But Dr. Ghazeeri and her team took the time to explain everything with compassion and clarity. They helped me understand that if I ever wanted to become a mother, this technology could give me that chance.
Protecting Our Dream
My husband and I didn’t hesitate. We knew we wanted to build a family one day, and we wanted to do everything we could to protect that dream. So, I went ahead and froze my eggs and embryos—holding onto hope in the face of uncertainty.
Finding Strength in the Struggle
I will not pretend it was easy. I was anxious, overwhelmed, and deeply worried about what the future might hold. But the support I received from the medical teams gave me strength. They reminded me to stay focused on my dream and, most importantly, not to lose hope.
A Message of Hope for Other Women
To every woman reading this: whether you are still searching for the right partner, facing a diagnosis, or navigating any kind of hardship—please hold on to your dreams. Trust your instincts, lean on the guidance of experts like Dr. Ghazeeri and her team, and believe that brighter days are ahead.
Full Circle: A Mother’s Gratitude
Today, as I write this, my son is sitting beside me, watching his mother live life with more strength and gratitude than ever before. I’ve been through some of the hardest moments imaginable, but I made it. And so can you.
With love and solidarity,
A fellow woman who never gave up
